The Ebinger SC 100 C is a handheld iron locator that uses innovative differential probe technology. It can detect magnetic anomalies in the earth's magnetic field caused by buried ferromagnetic objects. The detection range depends on the size, position, and magnetic signature of the objects.
The probe is moved in broad, sweeping motions across the ground. When the probe gets close to a ferromagnetic object, it triggers a local field distortion, which is then translated into an audible alarm. The sound’s pattern (pulsating or continuous) indicates the magnetic polarity (north or south pole) of the object. For rapid subsurface detection of ferromagnetic materials, the device employs two dynamic detection phases. In this mode, continuous magnetic interferences, such as those from mineralized soil or fences, can be reduced to manageable levels. In static mode, the presence of deeply buried ferromagnetic objects is signaled by an audible tone that increases in volume as the probe nears the target.
