The biggest advantage of using explosive breacher equipment is speed. When the demolition charge is initiated, entry personnel can enter immediately. Mechanical breaching or tactical equipment can take significant time on target and let the bad guys know you are coming in giving them time to flush or destroy evidence or further bunker in place for a fight.
Another advantage is that the breacher shot acts as a distraction device such as a flashbang. Other benefits include weight. Breaching charges are small and lightweight. Compared to door rams and other mechanical breaching tools which are very heavy and may take additional personnel to carry. When the op is over, the mechanical breaching tools must be returned. When explosive breaching is used, there is very little to carry away.
