ICW or In Conjunction With is the term used to classify a type of Body Armor that would work against rifle rounds. Many rifle plates are classified as Stand Alone. This means the plate can be used by itself in a plate carrier with no need for additional protection. ICW Rifle Plates must be used in conjunction with soft body armor to fully protect the wearer to the level designated by the plate. The soft armor panel will sit directly behind the plate within the plate carrier.

Level IV ICW is a rifle plate that is rated to stop 30-06 or armor piercing rounds as long as the plate is worn in conjunction with soft body armor typically worn by police officers. An ICW plate of any level will not perform as designed without soft armor being worn directly beneath the plate.
For this reason, many departments and individuals spend a fraction more for Stand Alone Rifle Plates to ensure maximum protection for the wearer. Taking this approach also gives the wearer an option should they be without their soft armor work vest.
Other ICW plates include Level III+ or Green Tip plates, Level III rifle plates and even a Combination Stand Alone/ICW Plate that stops AR 5.56 and AK 7.62x39 rounds without soft armor but if worn with soft armor provides Level III+.
